Follow up

There are plenty of important advocacy opportunities, such as the Universal Periodic Review, that may be used in order to promote the domestic implementation of the CAT Committee recommendations. In line with its working objective to strengthen the capacity of local actors for change, OMCT reports, missions and advocacy are conducted in partnership with CSOs which contributes to reinforcing and legitimizing their work. Beneficiaries of our support receive guidance and mentoring, including to engage in dialogue with States.

Currently, OMCT is also conducting in-depth and sustained advocacy on the implementation of the Convention in six focus countries, namely Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ivory Coast, Togo, Mexico and Colombia. This includes authoritative research on torture, national consultations on legal reforms, effective victims’ support and remedies, and public outreach to generate support for anti-torture reforms.
