Invitation to a Briefing Session

The Current Situation in the Occupied Territories and the Related Human Rights Violations

On the occasion of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights and the opening of item 8 on “the question of the violation of human rights in the occupied Arab territories,
including Palestine” , the above mentioned human rights organizations jointly invite the media, the members of the UN Commission, NGOs and Diplomatic Missions in Geneva to a briefing session on the current situation in the occupied territories and the related human rights violations.

Date: MONDAY MARCH 26th, 2000
Time: 13 :00 - 15 :00
Venue: ROOM XXII, PALAIS DES NATIONS

The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), an international human rights NGO, the Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment (LAW), a Palestinian human rights NGO, as well as the Physicians for Human Rights, and the Rabbis for Human Rights (to be confirmed), both Israeli human rights NGOs, will take stock of the pressing human rights concerns left unsolved regarding the developments in the occupied territories since September 2000.

Palestinian civilians will also take part in the briefing session and testify on the human rights violations they have suffered since September 2000.

The panel of the briefing session will consist of:

- Eric Sottas, The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT)
- Nathalie Mivelaz, The World Organization Against Torture (OMCT)
- Dianne Luping, The Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment (LAW)
- Khader Shkirat, The Palestinian Society for the Protection of Human Rights and the Environment (LAW)
- Avadovenitz Hetva, Physicians for Human Rights
A representative of the Rabbis for Human Rights (to be confirmed)
- Jabrin Javali who was injured while in her home during Israeli bombing
- Mr. Hamdan whose 10 year old daughter died not being able to reach the Nablus hospital in time due to the internal closure of the occupied territories
- Ala Badran,12 years old, from the West Bank who was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers
- Saad Muhammad Elledawi, 18 years old from Gaza who was shot and injured by Israeli soldiers as he took part in stone throwing
- Dr. Siham Thabet, whose husband Dr Thabet was extra judicially killed by Israeli Defence Forces
